Itinerary

Day 1 USA-RIO DE JANEIRO
Depart USA via overnight flight to Rio de Janeiro with meals on board


Day 2 RIO DE JANEIRO

Meeting & assistance upon arrival in Rio de Janeiro and transferred to your hotel. The formercapital of Brazil sits in one of the world’s most magnificent harbors & it is considered by many to be the world’s most beautiful city. The balance of the day is at your leisure.


Day 3 RIO DE JANEIRO (CORCOVADO)

A drive through the city takes you to the Cosme Velho train station. The cog-wheeled train will climb up through the Tijuca Rain Forest to Corcovado Mountain, about 2200 feet above sea level, & to the steps of the 125-foot statue of Christ the Redeemer, Rio’s signature landmark. You will enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of Rio de Janeiro, the Guanabara Bay, Rio & Niteroy 9-mile bridge, Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon & the Atlantic Ocean. The afternoon is free to explore the city on your own. (B)
Day 4 RIO DE JANEIRO (SUGAR LOAF)
Today you will drive along Rio’s famous beaches passing through traditional & historical sites to the Praia Vermelha cable car station. The cable car first will take you to the Urca Mountain (mid-way station) with its gardens & look out points. Then, the second part of the ride will take you to the peak of the Sugar Loaf Mountain the guardian of Guanabara Bay 1300 ft. above sea level. Return to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure. (B)

Day 5 RIO DE JANEIRO-IGUASSU FALLS

You will fly to Iguassu Falls. Located near the Junction of Brazil, Argentina & Paraguay in the Iguassu National Park, it is one of the largest reserves of subtropical jungle. The cataracts are formed from 275 different cascades spanning two and half miles across. In the afternoon, take a walking tour of the Brazilian side of Iguassu Falls and admire the beauty & abundance of one of the world’s great natural wonders. (B)
Day 6 IGUASSU FALLS-MANAUS
Morning transfer to the airport for your flight to Manaus. In the days of the Amazon rubber boom, Manaus was known as the Paris of the jungle. Today it still remains a big harbor where despite the fact that it is 1,000 miles inland. Oceangoing ships still dock there to distribute their cargo throughout the Amazon basin. Manaus still serves as the base for the Amazon region. The balance of the day is at your leisure. (B)
Day 7 MANAUS-AMAZON JUNGLE
In the morning you will be transferred to the pier for
 your 35-mile river journey to the Ariau Jungle Tower Lodge. The lodge is located on the Rio Negro and Ariau creek, near the Anavilhanas Archipelago. Built on stilts with an observation tower over 100 feet high, it allows visitors to observe the beautiful wildlife. After lunch, take a reconnaissance tour by motorized canoe to visit native villages. In the evening an optional night excursion views the local nocturnal wildlife. (B, L, D)

Day 8 AMAZON JUNGLE
You will have lots of jungle activities today. First, you will take a morning jungle trek to observe the surrounding wildlife habitat. After lunch, board a canoe for piranha fishing. Return to lodge for dinner. This evening you will enjoy a night excursion for alligator spotting by flashlight. (B, L, D)
Day 9 AMAZON JUNGLE- MANAUS
Enjoy an early morning tour of the jungle. After lunch, you will be transferred to your Manaus Hotel. The afternoon is free to explore the city, perhaps a visit to the lively colorful Municipal Market or to the restored Opera House. (B, L)
Day 10 MANAUS- USA
Transfer to the airport for your flight home. (B)
